Pterodactyl: import, checks and optimizer

Import your whole network, what Tickhound checks in the panel, and how the optimizer applies fixes.

What Tickhound reads

With a linked server, Tickhound reads the limits, Docker image, startup command, backups, schedules and ports from the panel. This is read-only and uses your own Client API key, which is stored encrypted and never shown again.

Beyond reading, Tickhound can import your servers (import) and, on the Pro plan, apply recommended settings through the panel (optimizer).

Import your whole network

On the Servers page choose Import from Pterodactyl. Tickhound lists every server of the panel, looks at the files of each one and works out what it is: a Velocity or BungeeCord proxy, a backend behind that proxy, or a standalone server.

It fills in address, port, software, Minecraft version, the proxy type of every backend, the backend ports of each proxy (matched from the proxy config to the panel servers) and the RCON port. Servers already added by hand are linked to their proxy. Nothing is created until you tick the servers and confirm that you own them, and the number of servers is limited by your plan.

Memory limit and heap

The panel memory limit is a hard wall. Java needs more than its heap: metadata, threads and native buffers add roughly 10–15%. If -Xmx (or -XX:MaxRAMPercentage) is close to the limit, the container is killed without warning.

Use about 80% of the limit. Many eggs ship with MaxRAMPercentage=95, which is too high.

Java image

A panel server runs inside a Docker image with a fixed Java version. Minecraft 1.20.5 and newer needs Java 21, 1.18–1.20.4 needs Java 17. Change the image on the panel's Startup page.

Disk limit

A server that reaches its disk limit cannot save chunks or write backups. Remove old backups, logs and crash reports, or ask for more disk.

CPU limit

100% is one full core. Under 100% the main thread is throttled and can never tick at full speed. Use 100% as a minimum and 200% or more for busy servers.

Swap

Swap turns a full heap into long freezes instead of a clear error. Set it to 0 and size the heap properly.

Backups

Tickhound checks that a completed backup exists from the last few days. Create one in the panel before you change configs or update plugins.

Schedules

Schedules run inside the panel, so they keep working when Tickhound is closed. A nightly restart keeps memory and entity counts in check. Create a nightly restart and a nightly backup on the Schedules page of your panel.

Ports

The port you gave Tickhound should be one of the panel's allocations, otherwise players and the network checks look at the wrong place.

Startup flags

Many eggs start Java with only a memory option. Add tuned G1 flags (Aikar) or ZGC. The Tools page builds them for your memory size and Java version.

Server optimizer

The Server optimizer page lists config values that differ from Tickhound's recommendations. Tick the ones you want and Tickhound edits the files through the panel: it makes a backup copy of each file first, changes only those lines (comments stay), checks that the file still parses, and then writes it. Restart the server to use the changes.

Everyone can see the list and copy the values. Applying them for you through the panel is part of the Pro plan. Security changes are in the same list under “Security hardening”.

Changes marked “players may notice” alter gameplay slightly, for example lower view distance or mob caps. Changes marked “check first” can break something that depends on the old value, for example RCON tools. Neither kind is ticked by default.
